Hygiene & HACCP
Laundry Flow Diagram
Cross contamination between laundered and soiled garments is of serious concern and closely monitored under HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) recommendations/regulations and other laundering best practices. OPL is passionate about adherence to these best practices and operates a two tier process to ensure full compliance.
All OPL laundering solutions and services are segregated into two clean room working Areas, namely LOW-CARE for soiled garments and HIGH-CARE for clean garments. Of paramount importance is that there should be no overlap or compromise between the two processes. Our laundering services are audited on a regular basis to ensure that the highest standards are consistently maintained.
OPL and HACCP
OPL understands that HACCP is one of the most important factors in our clients business. From the hygiene laundry prospective we assist our clients by managing the following hazards that may occur in the laundry and garment industry:
-
Physical Hazards
Any lose item that should not be on the garments or that can contaminate food. -
Microbial Hazards
Pathogens that survive the laundering process. Germs and Bacteria that can make people ill. -
Chemical Hazards
Laundry chemicals that are used while washing the garments.
On Premises Laundries manages HACCP and potential hazards by making strict use of the following processes and procedures:

Laundry Disinfection
On Premises Laundries Washing Processes:
- OPL makes use of Thermal and Chemical Disinfection in the washing process;
- All washing programs are optimised per client and programmed into the industrial washers which cannot be altered by the laundry staff;
- All chemicals used in the laundries are manufactured by SABS accredited manufacturers;
- Chemical dosing quantities are pre-packed by a chemical packing department to eliminate the risk of under or over dosing;
- Liquid chemicals are controlled by automated chemical dosing pumps to ensure the correctness of the dosages;
- The various chemical products used in the washing process ensures that the optimal chemical disinfection is achieved without damaging or destroying the garments;
- The washing temperature will vary from 35°c to 85°c depending on the type of soiling that needs to be removed for example proteins, fats, oils and solid.
On Premises Laundries Drying Process:
- The tumble drying process is the final critical control point in the laundry washing process;
- This is where the thermal disinfection takes place. The garments are dried at 85 °c for a period of 40 minutes where after the garments are hung in the clean garments area (High Care), ready for distribution to the client’s staff.
